Who We Are
Science For America empowers educators as teachers and learners as they develop and implement new themes, ideas, and curriculum. Educators are given the opportunity to learn and build networks with leaders, experts and each other.
Our website is built upon the belief that educators can only facilitate the development of analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills when these same proficiencies are used to resolve the issues confronting science education today.
We will meet the needs of science educators, so they can best meet the needs of students.
Guiding Principles
One of the guiding principles of Science For America is that to teach science, one must know science. In addition, we believe that in order to excel in their careers and feel pride in what they do, teachers need strong pedagogical skills, access to rigorous and thoughtful materials, and the opportunity for meaningful collaborative and cooperative experiences.
We have compiled a set of resources and links for people interested in science teaching and in general issues of science education. These include online resources for lesson plans, activities, and demonstrations that are consistent with the best practices in science education. We also believes that being a teacher of science means participating actively in a community of practice with other science educators. To this end, we also post information about upcoming conferences and workshops, including the Project-Based Learning Seminar series, in which representatives from the Buck Institute for Education and New Tech High Foundation present on a variety of rich and engaging topics in development and implementation of project-based learning.
